ABSTRACT The impact of hidden caries and currently-available diagnostic methods on treatment approaches for fissure caries is significant, and provides an opportunity for a novel and conservative approach for treating these lesions. The problems of hidden caries and current diagnostic methods are considered in light of previous and proposed treatment solutions. A new system, the Fissurotomy™ System, is presented and the application of the system to treatment of fissure caries is explained.
